Sunshine, cool air and much to enjoy ...

What a gorgeous day!  The sky clear and blue, the clouds few and far between, the farm green and soft, fire ablaze in the barn and the fresh cold outdoors to be in.

Holly, Rosie, Ryder and Willow had a wonderful time at the farm together amongst all this.

Ryder spent the day enjoying himself heaps and being hit by the memory bug.  All of a sudden we'd encounter something he'd done when he was a regular visitor age 2-3 and he'd say, 'I remember this ... ...' and I'd watch him take it in a new.

Willow mooched along all morning happy to be with us all and by afternoon was on fire with enthusiasm and her sense of humour to the fore ... she loved, amongst much more, schlooping around in the mud and inspired everyone to do the same ... lots of smiles and laughter there

Rosie and Holly warmed up as the day went on and it didn't take long to feel like there had been no time at all between our last meeting and the day we were sharing.

Rosie had her camera with her and was really intent on taking her own photographs of the day ... ... she was quite gorgeous with her attention on this and really intent on caring about the quality of the shots she took, very patient and mature.

Holly was fun, she had spontaneous moments of much humour all day long and a little creative spark would shine through too ... ... like when she picked up some dry grass and immediately held it to her head as a princess crown, and perfect for that it was ...

We fed horses, cuddled guinea pigs, visited the vege garden, climbed trees, played in the mud, walked for miles, wandered into the back of the convent to see the garden there and so much more ... enjoy a peek at our day ...

What a great day .. ..

Well the first of our winter holiday gang met at the farm on monday and as the opening line says ... ... ... 'What a great day!'

Imogen, Clementine, George, Soul, Jasper and Charli really enjoyed themselves and each other even though it was for some a first meeting.

We started the day with a guinea pig cuddle, always a gentle and way to warm up to each other and the farm.

We looked for eggs, found none :( and wondered off to the vege garden.

As we wound our way through, Rebekkah was walking quietly into our plot , me a way behind with the kids and Soul had obviously been watching and taking us all in and he asked, 'Did you two fall in love?'  I turned to look and see who he was talking to.  He was looking straight at me.  I asked, 'Are you asking me that Soul?'  He said, 'Yes' and looked from me to Rebekkah and back again.

How beautiful, the day so young and in trying to sense what our relationship was about, he'd decided we must have fallen in love.  I told him, 'Yes we did, a long time ago when she was a baby.  I'm her mum, she's my daughter and we do love each other.'   I found him so astute in his perception of things as we hadn't exchanged a whole lot and Rebekkah and I were both engaging with the children and not heaps with each other.

The garden was fun and allowed me to pick some of the snail pecked Asian greens I've been growing, :) for chicken food.

Well we were really warmed up to each other and the farm after this, feeding the chickens was a hoot.  The chickens enthusiastic, the children as well and lots of green leaf to keep us all engaged and entertained for ages.

Jasper held court and set the tone for his contribution to the day, good humour, sunn dispostion, loads of interest in everything and enjoying seeing the other kids happy.

From here on, we milked the cow, visited the pigs, walked for miles, met some horses, found a pile of wood that needed shifting, visited the 'Witches Garden', the most beautiful little paddock down the back that is hardly ever visited, all shady and soft, with a little path as you enter under the bushes that immediately set things apart and really creates the feeling of being somewhere quite magical and special.

While we were playing there, Soul came up and say down by me with a bit smile, sighed and said, "I'm having a really great time."

Charli called out very excitedly in her play, 'Look, I've found spiders eggs.'  She came and got me, big eyes and really wanting to show her discovery.  'Where are they Charli?'  I asked.  I was looking at the bush she was playing near and she stood near the fence pointing into the paddock next door.  I thought there must have been a web or something on the fence wire.  I asked again, 'Where?'  Look she pointed through the fence, and there on the ground were her 'Spiders eggs'.  I looked and what I saw was a neat little pile of goats poo!  Charli had obviously taken in how neat the little balls were, how neat the little pile was and decided from her past experience that these were spiders eggs.   I got down with her talked about how they were sort of like spiders eggs, all neat and round and in a pile, yet they weren't.  She looked at me with big eyes as if to say, 'Well what could they be?'  I asked, 'Do you want to know what they are?'  'Yes' 'It's goat's poo.'  A moments surprise at this from Charli, then lots of laughter, then, 'Hey, look what I found, it's goat's poo.'

George sat next to me at one point on the little timber seat,  he looked up and smiled and I said, 'George, you are very sweet'  He looked at me some more and smiled a little shyly some more and I said, 'Really George, you are a very gorgeous little boy.'  He tipped his head on his side, turned his eyes and said, 'Awhh, don't say that', like little Mr. Coy.  Very endearing.

Clem and Immi, were in the pink together .. .. .. happy to be at the farm, remembering their past days there together, loving the new kids to explore with, playing their little hearts out as they both know only too well how to do and for me a blessing.  It was such a treat to share the day with them both, see how they'd grown and to enjoy who they are both are now.  Very beautiful young girls.

They looked at the detail and small things together.

We found sap and made, 'Lolli pops' .. .. which brought lots of smiles and best of all while the farm was busy with holiday crowds we were mostly in a sanctuary of our own enriched and enlivened by the imaginations at play.

We also played in the sand, rolled drums, lolled round in the garden on the bluestoune seat.. .. ..

.. .. ..and most of all enjoyed ourselves and each other HEAPS! .. .. .. take a peek.. .. ..

I love you little chicken and Limbo Rock ...

Thursday before last, as I milled around with the little gang along for the day near the wood fired oven, I was talking to Winston and turned to Ava behind me, who was talking with us and Winston said, 'In with the chickens'.

Ava had taken herself into the chicken house five steps behind us and I quietly moved over to see what she was up to.

This was a brave moment for Ava, taking herself in there by alone ... ... the chickens on mass can be pretty overwhelming when you aren't much taller than they are.

When I looked in, I could see through the back of the open chicken coop inside and Ava was there with her little arms under her head resting on the opening as she peered in.  One hand reached out unaware at first I was there and as she sang to herself, she tenderly stroked the back of the chickens neck with one little finger.

A moment of pure reverie and gentle love with the chicken very contendedly snuggled in.

As you can see in the photo, Winston soon went in behind to see what she was doing and after turning to see Winston, unperturbed, Ava continued to stroke the chicken ever so gently...

Thursday just gone, we were in the horse arena down the back playing in the sand and rolling the big drums and having heaps of fun.

All of a sudden a huge mob of older kids arrived, about 30 of them, part of a holiday group.  They flooded into our play space oblivious to the little folk playing.  Each of the children lifted their heads, stood on the spot and watched the chaos.

Two adults with the older children picked up a pole used for horse jumps and started a limbo competition, right around where Ava and Winston were playing.  As I moved closer to make sure Ava and Winston weren't overwhelmed by all this, I saw in fact how capable they both are.

One of the adults had just explained the limbo and Winston and Ava, standing totally wide eyed and innocent and not fazed by the crowd at all, looked at each other, moved into the middle and straight away had their turn at Limbo.  All the older kids wore faces of amazement and they just stood back while Ava and Winston laughed and leant back and followed each other round under the limbo pole a few times.

The competition had instantly become a spontaneous and very delightful Limbo show thanks to Ava and Winston, totally oblivious of everyobody watching them.

Spontaneous, intent to try what they'd just heard was possible, totally unfazed by all the unknown faces atop much taller bodies, very funny and in total joy together.

No picture I'm sorry to say, just keeping an eye on the larger crowd and letting myself take in what was happening was all I could manage ... ... I trust you can see it with your minds eye.

Peppered with kindness and magical mermaids ...

Well that is exactly what Peppercorn did to Wednesday for us all ... there wasn't a moment in the day where she wasn't giving kindness and love and being oh so very generous of herself.

We started the day in the vege garden seeing how luscious all the greens are in my plot.  Next week we are going down to get some things to make some salad sandwiches together.  (Let's hope it's a bit warmer than the 'soup' weather we've been in this week) Pepper was just gorgeous.  She took the idea straight to heart and engaged with me for ages about wanting to bring something.

'O.k.  I'll bring some bread and cheese and things next week we can have with our sandwiches', I said once decided.

Pepper added, 'I can bring some bread.'  and a discussion ensued where all she wanted to do was be part of creating this for everyone, if I get the bread, she'll bring some cheese ... what else could we bring ... how yummy it would be to eat things straight from the garden ...

As we moved on from here, there wasn't a moment in the day where I interacted with or watched Pepper where she wasn't giving kindness and love ... she's a bit like spending a day with a big honey pot.

Arm around Zoe as they walked and talked, showing us her somersaults while narrating outloud how to do them so we could all try...

... being a very patient patient when Dawn came along (a friday visitor) and we all got to see her Dr's bag.

Zoe was delighted with every moment she spent in play with Peppercorn ..

(a watchful eye over things in the magical fairy house)

She embued all they did with magic.  For anyone who knows Zoe, some familiar words, "Excuse me, don't you know ...
.. that we're mermaids.
.. that we're magical.
.. that we're fairies.
.. that this is a magical house."

All the while singing and dancing and 'reading' as she does.  Zoe holds court  with two little hands palms open and facing up, her book, as she spontaneously makes up and 'reads' to the others.  So full of wonder and joy for her tale, I found myself almost dropping at her feet to listen yesterday.

Zoe is about to move home and her time with us all at the farm comes soon to and end. Wow, what a privilege to share life each wednesday with this little song and dance girl, who has found her way into all her hearts in a very special way by being Zoe Paul.

We love you Zoe and we will miss you and wish you lots more magic and adventure ... ... also audiences far wide for your gift as an orator and songstress ... I know for sure that they are the lucky ones!
