Magical moments on thursday ...

Another glorious day at the farm.

As we entered the back paddock and Milana took it in, she exclaimed, 'Wow!' ... then noticed the steam coming gently from the earth.  She was fascinated, 'What's this?' she called as she ran to it ... and of course as she ran to it and was immersed in it, she couldn't see it.  She'd re-focus and run again and was calling all the time, 'Look, what's this?'  'What's this coming up?' She looked up into the sky, little wisps of cloud in one place and she announced, 'Look it's blowing the couds away.' By the time the other children had caught up with her she was at the top of the rolling hill looking down towards the river.  The tree line was blocking the sun, and she said as she stood in the shade ... just a little wistfully, 'Oh it's gone.'  Such a magical wonderous exploration to have witnessed.

A little while later we headed for the 'sand pit' and the children were all climbing and wanting to jump off the landing for mounting the horses.  Farrah was gung ho and off like a flash, smiling from ear to ear.  Milana wanted a hand and Daisy was quite cautious ... only for one or two jumps though.  Over the last weeks she's been jumping off things and testing her courage.  First it was a piece of wood 5cm thick, then a stone, then a small seat ... she's ask for my hand before doing it herself.  Her confidence had grown over the last weeks and today when I suggested she jump without my help, she looked a little surprised, then took a moment to consider.  I told her, 'I think you can Daisy, you are brave and good at jumping.'  That was enough for her ...

She was thrilled to bits with herself and proceeded to repeat this perhaps a good twenty times, the same look of pride, excitement and satisfaction on her face after every single jump.

The sweetest moment with Cosmos today.  He sidled up to Heather the cow chatting to her through the fence.  She came quite close, I'm sure to listen to all he had to say.  He then asked if she was hungry and his little hand went through the fence to offer her a tiny little blade of grass.  Such a divine moment ...

Farrah and Milana came across a pile of fresh horse poo in the back paddock and decided to jump on it and flatten it ...

Daisy drew their attention to a nearby fresh cow pat ... no worries at all for Farrah who jumped in ankle deep (a blessing her gum boots were on) and she delightedly jumped and splashed as if playing in mud and suddenly she seemed to become conscious of what she was jumping in stopped mid stomp and said, 'Wash my gumboots.'

Anna kept her eye on everyone and found a place to lounge where-ever we went.  My lap was a good spot, on a stump was pretty good and hanging through the fence as if she'd been doing it for years wasn't bad at all ... especially with the morning sun on her back ...
